Betty Carolyn Templeton Colley passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at her home in Plano, Texas. She was born on September 18, 1944 in Paris, Texas to Goebel and Kathleen Templeton.
Betty Carolyn grew up in Cooper, Texas. She graduated from Cooper High School in 1962. After high school she received a B.A. degree from the University of Texas in Austin in 1965. She also received an M.M.E. degree from the University of North Texas in Denton,Texas. Betty was a composer and published compositions from KJOS publishing company. She wrote and published Styles for Piano, Reflections at the Piano, A Very Special Christmas Greeting, and Takin' it Easy which are still played today. She was awarded Outstanding Texas Composer Award given by Plano Music Teacher's Association. She was also a member of Richardson Music Teachers' Association, Music Teachers' National Association, Texas Music Teachers' Association, and M.E.N.C/T.M.E.A
Betty Carolyn is survived by her son Christopher David Colley of Frisco, Texas and daughter and son in law Elise and Jason Young of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren Christopher and Nazereth Colley, and Laura Lee and Jake Young; sister Laura Kathryn Templeton; nieces and nephews Shanna Crawford, Jason Levy, Robert Templeton Jr., Mary Elizabeth Templeton, Carol Anne Templeton, and June Kathryn Templeton.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Cooper,Texas. Rev. James Horace Aldridge will officiate with interment following in Oaklawn Cemetery in Cooper, Texas.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from Noon until service time at the Methodist Church.
