Betty Jo “Lay” Lewis 100 of Midlothian passed away Thursday March 6, 2025.
Visitation will be held from 12:00-1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Delta Funeral Home in Cooper, Texas.
Graveside services will follow and are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday March 15, 2025, at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Ben Franklin with Funeral Celebrant Stephen Cooper officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be Phillip Davis, William Lewis, Scott Maner, and Austin Adams.
Betty was born September 23, 1924, in Ben Franklin, Texas, to George “Jack” and Thelma Belle “Merrill” Lay.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Richard Lewis; son-in-law, Glen Barbee; and sisters, Birdie Jane Cooper, Bonnie Jean Irwin, and Billie Jacqueline Freeman.
Betty Lewis is survived by her daughters, Jacqueline Barbee, and Teresa Shope and husband Glenn; son, William E. Lewis Jr.; granddaughters, Tracy Davis and husband, Phillip, and Jennifer Maner and husband Scott; great granddaughters, Brooklyn, Bailey, and Brynlee Davis, and McKenzie Adams and husband, Austin; and several nieces and nephews.
Betty was a beloved teacher for 40 years as well as a Girl Scouts Executive. Her love for others, especially her family, defined who Betty was as a person.
