Don Gene Smith, 87, of Cleveland, Texas (east end of Delta County) passed away Saturday, December 20, 2025.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 pm, Monday, December 22, 2025, at Charleston Methodist Church with Reverend Lyn Dennis officiating.  Interment will follow at Charleston Cemetery in Charleston, Texas.

Visitation will be from 1-2 pm prior to the funeral at Charleston Methodist Church.

Serving as pallbearers will be Greg Moore, Cade Smith, Eli Cooper, Michael Jones, Brazos Phillips, Dawson Hammer, Destin Swaim and Robert Nabors.

Don was born on September 11, 1938 in Vasco, Texas to Floyd and Mildred Hood Smith.  They precede him in death, as well as, his wife, Shirley Ann Nabors, sister, Pat Smith, and brothers, Michael Smith and James Smith.

He was a farmer and rancher by trade and in the words of his great niece, “Don was a real cowboy”.  Don lived his entire life on the east end of Delta County and was a friend and neighbor to practically everyone in the area.  He will be remembered by many as a helper in a time of need.  Don lived a good life, was a good man, and will be missed.

He is survived by his brother Ricky Smith and wife, Patricia; sister-in-law, Katie Malone; nieces and nephews: Greg Moore, Michelle Moore, Angela Smith, Rikki Smith, Shannon Simpson, Cade Smtih, Lyn Malone, DeeAnn Malone, Julie Kay Malone and Robert Nabors.
