Donald Cawthon Obituary

Donald Loyd Cawthon, age 69, of Cooper, Texas passed away on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 in Paris, Texas.

Graveside services will be on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery in Cooper, Texas. Kaleb Wright will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Shane Hoskison, Dustin Hoskison, Josh Hoskison, Benton Hoskison, Tyler Hoskison, and Lucas Hoskison.

Donald was born to David William and Hazel Marie “Cochran” Cawthon on September 10, 1951 in Rogers, Arkansas.  He married Kathy Grant on December 21, 2012 at 12:21pm.  He was very accomplished in his academics He received his B.S. Horticulture, (1973), at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, M.S. - Horticultural Food Science, (1977), at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, and received his Ph. D. Food Science, (1982), at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. Don served many years with Texas A&M  system and upon his retirement (2018) was the Resident Director, Texas A&M System AgriLife Research and Extension Center, Stephenville and the Dean, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Tarleton State University. Don received many distinct awards during his career. He was also known affectionately by his grandchildren as “Doc”. 

Donald was preceded in death by his parents and nephew David Cawthon.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 8 years, Kathy Cawthon of Cooper, TX; sons, Shane Hoskison and Jamie of Plano, Texas, Dustin Hoskison and Misti of Allen, Texas, and Josh Hoskison and Amy of Cooper, Texas. 4 amazing grandchildren, Benton Hoskison, Tyler Hoskison, Lucas Hoskison, Tatum Hoskison; brother, David Wesley “Chief” Cawthon and Alice of Depew, Oklahoma; and nephew, Kevin Cawthon and wife Mary of Plano, Texas. He also had many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews that he adored.
