Elviria Lynn (Cockrum) Echols Obituary

Elviria Lynn “Cockrum” Echols, 89, of Cooper, Texas, passed away Monday, May 25, 2026. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM, Friday, May 29, 2026, with visitation from 10:00-11:00. Harvey Hohenberger will officiate. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.

Elviria was born in Peerless, Texas on August 25, 1936, to Elbert and Ruby Jim Staley Cockrum. She married A.R. “Sucker” Echols Jr. on November 9, 1956. He preceded her in death September 2, 2015, after 59 years of marriage.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Kenneth Cockrum and wife Barbara Cockrum, sisters Theo Thompson and husband S.W. Thompson, Virgie James and husband Willie Joe James, and brother-in-law Jamie Brice.

Elviria is survived by her son Alford R. Echols III of Cooper, daughter Lesley Anecia Navia and husband Diego of Deport, Texas, two grandchildren, James Chance Navia and Dr. Shay Anecia Lynn Navia, OTD, and sister Sharlene Brice.

Elviria will always be remembered as a wonderful cook by her family and the many friends and neighbors she fed throughout the years. Her homemade banana pudding, chocolate pie, chicken salad, and apricot hand pies were family favorites along with just about anything else she cooked. Her grandchildren, Chance and Shay, were the light of her life. She was always ready to play tractors, dress up Barbies, and have a Scooby Doo marathon with popcorn and Dr. Pepper. She loved going out to eat, going on shopping trips, and going on vacation with her babies.

Pall bearers will be Chance Navia, Diego Navia, Marc Moody, Ricky Joe James, Mike Cassidy, Phillip Wilburn, Adam Wilburn, and Mike Yee.

The family would like to thank Dr. Tom Selvaggi, the staff of Birchwood Manor, where Elviria worked for many years as office manager, and hospice care for taking such good care of our Mama and Mimi.
