Herbert Preston Ozment, 81, of Commerce, Texas passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Briarcliff Health Center in Greenville after an extended illness.
Herbert was born on June 20, 1939 in Dallas, Texas to the late Herbert Palace and Pearl Louise (Bogan) Ozment. He married Gloria Melverne McBride on August 26, 1961 in Klondike, Texas. Herbert served 20 years in the United States Air Force and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. He then was a school teacher, nursing home administrator, and a Deacon and Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church in Cooper, Texas. He was an avid reader and Billy Graham was his favorite author.
Herb enjoyed being outdoors, planting flowers, mowing the yard and pasture, taking great pride in his place. He loved animals and picked up numerous strays to add to the family. He could often be found with dog and cat food in the back of his truck. His alternate personality was Donald Duck and he entertained the young and old.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Eddie Ozment.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gloria Melverne Ozment; daughters, Tracy (Phil) McQueary of Fairlie, Lisa (Jim) Venable of Commerce; sister, Linda (Jack) Mason of Roxton; granddaughters, Abby (Eric) Rodgers, Macy (Steven) Cockrill; grandson, Preston Ozment; nephew, Keith Ozment (Karla); great niece, Alexis (Colton) Dickerman and numerous extended family.
A come and go visitation will be on Monday, December 14, 2020 at Delta Funeral Home Chapel from 1:00 – 6:00 pm. Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at Delta Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 pm. Interment will be at Oaklawn Cemetery with Rev. Johnny Witherspoon officiating.
