LaVerl Marie Ruzicka, 88, formerly of El Campo, passed away Saturday January 17, 2026 in Paris, Texas.
LaVerl was born February 9, 1937 in New Taiton to Charles Louis and Laura Mae Amman Melton who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Aleta Cook, Joyce Kocurek, Charlene Becak, and Shirley Smith.
LaVerl married Walter Jo Ruzicka December 28, 1957 in El Campo where they made their home and shared nearly 37 years before Walter’s passing.
She is survived by two sons and their wives, Charles and Tracey Ruzicka of Cooper and Kenneth and Shari Ruzicka of Hillje, five grandchildren, Corey Ruzicka, Shane Ruzicka (wife Erica), Sarah Corley, Rebecca Ruzicka, and Elizabeth Jester (husband Bryce), and three great-grandchildren, Colton Corley, Charlie Jester, and Elijah Jester. She is also survived by one sister, Evelyn Wied, and a brother, Wayne Melton.
Laverl was a homemaker who enjoyed tending her flower beds, cooking, baking, and sewing. She was an outstanding seamstress, having won numerous awards in her younger years for her excellent work. She worked for many years in the El Campo School District as a cafeteria worker. Later in life, she moved to Cooper working at Birchwood Manor Nursing Home and then for the Paris School District before returning to Bay City to be close to her siblings. This past year was spent back in Paris to be close to her Cooper family.
A memorial service will be held in El Campo at a later date.
