Rebecca Maureen Tune was born on June 15th, 1928, to Sam and Pansy Tune in Tupelo, Mississippi. Becky graduated from Tupelo High School, attended Blue Mountain College, and went on to earn a master’s degree in religious education from Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky specializing in youth work, a new field. Becky served at two churches as a youth minister before marrying Ziff Young.
Becky and Ziff Young were married on July 28th, 1962, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They made their home in Dallas and had a long and happy marriage. They had two children, Martha, and Mitchell Young.
Because of Ziff’s work as an aeronautical stress engineer, the Young family lived all over the US: Seattle, Atlanta, Encino, St. Louis, Wichita and Dallas. Becky and Ziff loved teaching and serving in various churches as they moved around, but First Baptist Dallas was always home. Together they ministered for years as Sunday School teachers to older single adults, often matchmaking. Becky was a gifted Bible teacher and counselor, influencing many women who considered her a mentor.
Becky was also a calligrapher who believed every Christian home needed scripture on the walls. Her calligraphy business was really a ministry as she gave away much more than she sold. She enjoyed teaching calligraphy to others and participating in the Dallas Calligraphy Guild.
Becky and Ziff retired to become missionaries in Galveston, Texas. Supported by the Houston Baptist Association of Churches, they worked for two years opening His Place, a ministry for indigent patients who came to Galveston for medical treatment.
After retirement, Becky decided to go by Rebecca. She and Ziff continued serving in the Stephen Ministry, as well as participating in the Precept Class and later, in the Genesis Class. Rebecca taught Conversational English to Internationals. They also enjoyed spending time with their family, especially their five grandchildren.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Pansy Tune, brothers Tom, Dick, Bill, Shearer and Joe Tune, her husband of 49 years Ziff Young and her son Mitchell Young.
She is survived by her daughter Martha Young Moser, her grandchildren Katie Moser, Kara Moser Kennon and her husband Demetrius Kennon, Kristen Moser and her husband Patrick Melvin, Kimberly Moser and Matthew Moser, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
