Roy Meyer Hadaway November 3, 1940 - September 21, 2024
Roy Meyer Hadaway, 84 of Cooper, passed away at home on the evening of September 21, 2024.
Born on November 3, 1940, to Flossie Ridgeway Hadaway and M.D. Hadaway in Roxton, Texas,
Roy was the oldest of five children. He was raised in a Christian home. After graduating from Roxton High School in 1959, Roy moved to Dallas. He worked as a Pressman for TI, then changed his career path securing a Master Plumber license, and opened Ahart Plumbing. After practicing for many years, he went to work for the City of Dallas and retired from there after 27 years as Parks & Recreation Manager.
Roy married Peggy Wood in Dallas on October 26, 1962. A few years later their son, Jeffrey Alan Hadaway was born. Roy was a member of Lake Highlands Baptist Church in Dallas.
A quiet, modest man of integrity, who would not say an unkind thing about anyone, Roy was a devoted husband and father and cared deeply for the Hadaway and Wood families.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy. They would have been married 62 years on their anniversary in October, his son, Jeff and wife, Tracey of Dallas, brothers Vernon (Pat) of Mesquite, Jerry (Elaine) of Heath, sister, Debbie Hadaway of Mesquite. Also surviving are Grandchildren Brittany (Jon) Batzlaff, Wichita, Kansas, Megan (John) Carroll of Plano and Michael (Bretta) Ortiz, Raleigh, North Carolina, Great Grandchildren Gunnar, Addison and Emma, sisters-in-law, Mary Little of Cooper, Geneva Voetter of Houston, and Denise Deel, Sulphur Springs, brothers-in-law, Wake (Beth) Wood of Talco, and Randy (Janay) Wood of Cooper, and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Flossie and M.D. Hadaway, grandmother, Estelee Hadaway, grandparents Lucy and Leonard Hadaway and Racha and Annie Ridgeway, as well as infant brother, Larry Hadaway.
The family will honor Roy’s memory with a private Celebration of Life Sunday, September 29 at Oaklawn Cemetery in Cooper, with Dr. Bill Holda officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Delta Funeral Home.
