Roy Dale “Pete” Carter, 81, of Paris, Texas passed away Friday, July 5, 2024.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at the Charleston Methodist Church in Charleston, Texas with the Reverend Lyn Dennis officiating. Internment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery, Cooper, Texas. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. prior to the funeral services. Pallbearers: Marshall Roberts, Chad Stegall, Bobby Asbill, Carl Weets, Todd May, Tanner May, Seth Carter, & Ashton Carter.
Pete was born on May 11, 1943, to Clark K. and Corda “Young” Carter in Littlefield, Texas. He married Linda Testerman on April 28, 1962, in Clayton, New Mexico and they were married 62 years.
He is survived by his wife Linda Gail Carter; sister in laws, Caroline Mills of Dumas, TX, Mary Carter of Scottsbluff, NE; brother in laws, Herman Jantzen of Bonham, TX, Chuck Testerman and wife, Gail of New Braunfels; Daughter, Tracy May, husband, Randy, of La Grange Wyoming; son, Daren Carter of Dix, NE; son Chris Carter, wife, Sandra of Paris, TX and daughter, Carrie Ingram, husband Matt of Charleston, Texas; as well as 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and extended friends and family. Pete was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Bufford Carter, Kenneth Carter and sisters Joy Hughes and Judy Jantzen.
Pete was a long time farmer and grew just about every crop you could think of, he farmed land in West Texas, Western Nebraska and Delta County. He was a member of the Charleston Methodist Church and enjoyed being a part of the Delta County community. If you knew Pete you knew he enjoyed sharing stories about his grandkids, football, his time farming and driving for Red River Transport. He was a 1962 graduate of Dumas High School and was very proud to have been a part of the 1961 State Football Championship team. He was named to the “1925-1990 All Dumas Demon Football Team” as a guard. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren's events, from orchestras & concerts, to football, track, basketball, baseball and softball. He was very proud of his family and we were very proud of him. He instilled hard work and dedication in all that knew him.
