Ruth Marie Black Gunter, 93, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday April 4, 2024, at Heritage House in Paris, Texas.


Graveside Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday April 6, 2024, at Garden of Memories cemetery in Ben Franklin, Texas, Pastor Danny Moody will officiate.


Ruth was born in Cooper, Texas, on October 18, 1930, to J.B. and Ida (Johnson) Black. They preceded her in death as well as her husband W.H. Gunter, and grandson Westin Gunter, sister Lucille Smith, brothers James Black and Gene Black, sister – in - laws Mary Black and Ida Huie, brother – in – laws Craig Regan and Leslie Smith.


Ruth graduated from Cooper High School and then later married W.H. on August 23, 1948, in Enloe, Texas, Ruth worked as a seamstress at Nahas in Paris, Texas for ten years and then started working at Paris Regional Hospital in the Pharmacy and then retired from thirty years of service as a sterile processing technician.


Ruth was known as Granny to everyone in the family. Granny had such a sweet and gentle spirit, a smile that lit up the room and man did Granny love to laugh! Granny had lots of hobbies. She enjoyed camping, especially at Beavers Bend with grandchildren, trips to Hot Springs, working puzzles and playing games, working in her garden when she was younger and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a devoted wife to W.H. Gunter. She enjoyed sitting outside and watching birds and nature. She kept multiple great - grandbabies while their parents worked and loved them every minute. Most of all she was a Christian lady who had such a loving heart for everyone.


Ruth had two amazing children, Vicki Gunter Thurman of Paris, Texas, and Wendell Gunter and wife Dawn of Ben Franklin. Ruth had seven grandchildren, Stephanie Coulter and husband Doug, Traci Davis and husband Paul, Sonya Hornaday and husband Walt, Sandy Lamb and husband Derek, Melissa Gibson and husband Brandon, Colton Gunter, and Brook Gunter, great- grandchildren Shanna True, Zachery Lamb, Emilee Hall, Hanna Hornaday, Jack Hornaday, Holly Hornaday, Jordan Davis, Emma Davis, Kellan Gibson, Chase Lamb, and Piper Gibson, sister Emily Regan, sister -in-law Eudora Morris, Cousin Jean Ann Gambrell.
