Simmie Richard George Obituary
Mr. Simmie Richard (SR) George of Charleston passed away Tuesday morning, November 20, 2012 at Birchwood Manor Nursing Home.
Funeral services for Mr. George will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, November 23 at the Delta Funeral Home Chapel in Cooper. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery in Cooper with Military Honors being performed by the Hopkins County Military Coalition.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 until service time Friday.
SR was born December 12, 1920 in Vasco. He was the son of Simmie Richard George Sr. and Jimmie Estelle (Tarpley) George. He served in the United States Army during World War II serving in New Guinea and other places in the Pacific.
He worked for many years for the Dallas Transit Authority, starting as a street car driver, then years later retired as a bus driver.
After his retirement he moved back from Dallas to Charleston where he spent his retirement years.
He is survived by nephews Glenn Randle, Bobby George, and Richard Basham and nieces Bonnie Cottingham and Becky Seale.
Mr. George was preceded in death by a brother; Toy Bishop George and by his sisters; Billie Jean Basham and Edna Randle.
