Charles Wendell Slakey of Cooper, TX passed away on Friday, February 4, 2022 at 81 years of age.
Wendell was born June 24, 1940 to Hollis and Lucille Slakey of Cooper, Texas. He married Betty Lou Miller in December of 1961.
Wendell served his country as a member of the United States Army Reserves and was called into active duty. He worked for Foxworth Galbraith in Cooper as a bookkeeper and he and Betty were able to purchase the building and open Slakey Building Supply which they owned for almost 30 years. He was also a second-generation home builder and a skilled craftsman in woodworking. He was an active member of New Hope Church, Cooper, TX. He was also a cattle rancher. He was a beloved coach in youth baseball where he coached the Yankees for many years. He enjoyed spending his time with family and left behind a legacy of the value of hard work, honesty, and integrity.
He was preceded in death by both parents. Survivors include his wife Betty of Cooper, sons Kevin and wife, Cindy, of Leonard, TX, Kent of Atlanta, GA, and Kregg and wife, Andrea, of Cooper, TX. Grandchildren Holly Glenn and husband, Trevor, Cayson Spinks and husband, Colton, Jolie Slakey and Jaret Slakey, and two great grandchildren, Radlyn Glenn and Braylyn Glenn.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Monday February 7, 2022 at the Delta Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Dean Eudy officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery with military honors provided by the Hopkins County Military Coalition.

Family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Sunday February 6, 2022 at the Delta Funeral Home Chapel.
